We needed some fresh sun hats this summer.
I made three hats a few years ago that I modified from an Oliver +S pattern and have been very happy with. I have always meant to make myself a 'cuter' one but have never gotten around to it. Well, Grace has long outgrown hers from the first batch so it was time for a fresh one.
She wanted pink, of course.
While I was at it, I made myself a cute polka dotted one.
I scaled the brim back a bit on this one so its not quite so large. It can flip up for a bit more visual range, but still keeps the sun out of my eyes. The hat part is quilting cotton and the brim is quilting cotton with denim (two layers) for interfacing. The denim layer gives the brim the stiffness to stay 'flipped up' if I want it to. Both of these were lined with the same fabric as the outer hat.
(Now that I see this pictures, I realize I should have pattern matched that side seam. Too late now. No one but a fellow seamstress would notice, right? Right.)
Currently on the sewing table is a lot of knit and lycra fabric... summer sewing of knit play dresses and swimsuits. Oh, and some english paper piecing I'm really enjoying working on - gotta love hand sewing in the evenings!
